GUN
PERMITS – ENTRY - TRANSFERS
The process of taking your shotguns to Argentina
is really simple and easy. Ask for the special form at your
nearest Argentine's consulate or from Global Sporting Safaris.
Upon your arrival in Buenos Aires (or Cordoba), you proceed
to the adjacent gun clearance area, fill out one local form
and pay $75 (U.S. Dollars) for each firearm. You can bring
2 guns per adult over 21. Los Chanares representatives
will provide assistance throughout in Cordoba (customs and
airport). If your itinerary requires an overnight
or changing airports in Buenos Aires, our representative can
meet you in the gun clearance office to assist and provide
hotel/airport transfers. He/she can also assist with dinner
reservations or plan shopping and sightseeing excursions.
These services at Buenos Aires are at extra charges. We will
be glad to give you pricing – just ask.
IMPORTANT
Upon return, the customs authorities in U.S.A. are likely
to ask for proof-of-ownership of your firearms. We strongly
recommend that you take a copy of the purchase receipt, or
register your guns with U.S. Customs Form 4457 (personal effects
form) prior to your departure from the U.S. Global Sporting
Safaris can assist you in acquiring these forms or send you
the form 4457 to process. This can also be accomplished at
your home city airport. Please do this to avoid any hassles
in U.S.A.
GUNS/CHOKES
12, 20 or 28 gauge is suitable; 410 bore is for expert only.
We recommend you bring two guns. Doubles, semi-autos or pumps
are fine. For chokes, we suggest improved cylinder and modified.
Screw-in chokes can provide flexibility. Make sure your guns
are in good working order before you visit Argentina; this
is high-volume shooting, in a country away from gunsmiths.
Take extra parts for repair if you have them. You should transport
your guns in a lockable hard case. We also suggest a lightweight,
storable soft case to carry guns into the field.
CLIMATE/CLOTHING
Please pack lightly to avoid excessive baggage charges. Use
dark green/brown or camo clothes with a corresponding hat.
Ankle- high shoes/boots are perfectly adequate. December -
April highs will be 80° - 90° with cooler evenings.
May - August is Winter; lows will be 40° - 45° and
highs 50° - 70°. September- November lows will be
45° - 50° and highs 70° - 75°. During our
Summer, bring your bathing suit. We have a wonderful pool
and outside Jacuzzi. Eveningwear will be very informal-whatever
is most comfortable, including hunting clothes if you wish.
The only need for a coat and tie is at a sophisticated restaurant
in Buenos Aires.
OTHER ITEMS TO INCLUDE

cleaning lubricant. Guns should be cleaned daily

AIRLINE
SCHEDULING
Aerolineas Argentinas, American Airlines, and United Airlines
offer several flights from major U.S. cities to Buenos Aires.
The flights leave in the evening and arrive in Buenos Aires
early (6-8AM.) the next morning. If you wish to use frequent
flyer miles on American, the trip from your home city usually
requires 60,000 miles in coach.
American Air Lines and Lan-Chili also offers flights to Santiago,
Chili and hourly flight direct to Cordoba without going through
Buenos Aires. This is the flight we recommend. Check also
with Southerwinds. At time of printing, they are talking about
a direct flight Miami-Cordoba. For European visitors, please
check with your favorite airline company.
CURRENCY
The official currency is the peso; click
here to see the current exchange. If you plan to spend
time shopping in Buenos Aires, you should exchange some dollars
into pesos for cash purchases, but U.S. dollars are pretty
widely accepted. If you pay with dollars, you will usually
receive your change in pesos. You will also need cash in dollars
or pesos for the airport departure tax (around $25). Visa,
MasterCard, and American Express are widely accepted in larger
cities only.
ELECTRIC CURRENT
220 volts: A standard converter and European adapter for two-
pronged plug should work fine.
GRATUITIES
Gratuities for hotel and field staff are not included in hunt
cost, and we suggest $35-50 per day, per shooter as a general
guideline. We will distribute the gratuities to the luggage
handlers, pick-up boys, and lodge staff, accordingly with
their work with us and seniority.
TIME
When we are on Daylight Savings Time here in the U.S., Argentina
is on Eastern Time plus one hour (it's later in Argentina).
The remainder of the year they are Eastern Time plus two hours.
There is a difference of 5-6 hours with European time depending
of the season and country. When it is morning in Argentina,
it is afternoon in Europe.
LANGUAGE
Spanish is the national language, although English is spoken
in most shops, restaurants and at the lodge.
BUENOS AIRES SHOPPING
Most shops are generally open all day to 7PM on weekdays and
1PM on Saturdays. Florida Street is for pedestrians only and
is lined with attractive shops. Frenkel's at Florida 1079
is within walking distance of the Plaza. Mundo del Cuero (or
World of Leather located in Calle Florida) houses two dozen
leather goods merchants.
RESTAURANTS
For steaks / mixed grill we suggest La Cabana., Entre Rios
436; or La Estancia, Lavalle 941. For sophisticated dining
we suggest EI Repecho de San Telmo, Carlos Calvo 242 or The
London Grill, Reconquista 455. In the Recoleta (an upscale
area with good shopping and sidewalk cafes) we suggest lola,
R.M. Ortiz 1811 or Au Bec Fin, Vicente Lopez 1825. You should
plan on eating a little later than you may be used to in the
U.S. Many Argentines don't eat dinner until 10 p.m., and most
restaurants do not begin serving dinner until 8:30 p.m. Our
representative can assist with all your reservation requests
in Buenos Aires. SPIRITS: Wine / beer furnished. We suggest
you buy your favorite spirits at the duty free shop in case
we don't have it.
